Mesa

The Mesa is one of my favorites neighborhoods in Santa Barbara.   It stretches from Santa Barbara City College on the east and extends two and one-half miles to Arroyo Burro County Beach.  (or “Hendry’s” to locals).  With it's easy access to the beach, wonderful parks and open spaces, great schools and a neighborhood shopping center with healthy grocers, coffee shops and excellent restaurants, it's hard to beat.

Residents of the Mesa cherish their accessibility to the beach, and there are a few to choose from.  Leadbetter beach on the east is a super fun point break with gentle waves, great for surfers of all levels.  There are picnic areas and a restaurant with tables right on the sand.   Shoreline Park, sits on the bluff, overlooking the ocean.  It is 15 ac. with an expansive lawn, kids play area, and bike and pedestrian trails.   At the southwestern tip of the West Mesa, the Douglas Family Preserve (known to locals as the “Wilcox property”) is a magnificent 70 acre recreation area, which as been conserved as a public area, for all to enjoy forever.
